My friend starts studying in San Francisco this September and as I have never been to San Francisco I would like to visit her for a week in December. I am slightly flexible with my travel dates but would prefer to fly a week over Christmas, leaving London on the 20th of December and returning on the 27th of December. I am guessing that flights over Christmas will be rather expensive and have chosen Amadeus.net to find the cheapest and most convenient flights for me. Amadeus.net is a great alternative to the usual travel search engines and I would like to tell you a bit more about the website while planning my trip to San Francisco.
Instead of searching for different outbound and inbound airports I can just type ‘Fly from London to San Francisco leave 20 Dec return 27 Dec’ and Amadeus.net does everything else for me. How easy is that? It will then take me to the next page with the flight results.
While common travel search engines would show me the cheapest flight first, Amadeus.net actually shows me the most convenient flight that doesn’t cost much more than the lowest priced flight. This is a great plus, in this case the cheapest flight from London to San Francisco costs £814 but both flights have a stop and are not direct. I prefer direct flights and I am happy to pay extra for this. Of course Amadeus.net has a filter, I set it to non-stop flights and my airline of choice is Virgin Atlantic, as I am a Flying Club member and collect miles and tier points for this route. The cheapest direct flight with Virgin Atlantic comes out at £962, not significantly pricier than the cheapest option. I can now add my chosen flight to my travel plan, which I unsurpringly name San Francisco.
I can add different links to the website, for example, museums I want to visit or restaurants I want to dine at as well as the hotel I want to stay at. This is especially fantastic for me, because until now I always ended up saving links and details of my trips on Evernote and while that was okay, the options on Amadeus.net are so much better. Should you try the website out, don’t forget to make your plans public if you like and share it with your friends and family.
Amadeus.net is not a transactional site, meaning you cannot purchase anything directly from the site. I am a frequent traveller and always used known travel search engines to find the cheapest and most convenient flights for me, but I have never booked a flight directly through the website. Instead, I usually book the flights directly over the airline’s website, hence why I don’t see it as a problem, that I cannot book flights directly through the Amadeus.net site. However, when selecting the flights, a tab opens up showing you different prices and a button to click on to get to the airlines and travel agents’ websites.

The website is still in an intermediate phase, and while it is already great, I am sure that even greater things will come from this website. Have a look for yourself, plan a trip and don’t forget to change it. What do you think of the website? All your comments will be highly appreciated.
