Something has to change – immediately.

I made my body very sick over the last years and it’s finally catching up with me. I ignored all the red flags, well, I tried to make changes but I always failed. I am now at a point, where I not only have to deal with ruptured ovarian cysts every month, but also with a bad outbreak of Candida albicans and being the heaviest I have ever been. On the 21st of December I have surgery and it is one of the biggest wake up calls.  I feel like a 25 year old trapped in an old woman’s body. One of my biggest priorities now and in the future will have to be my health.

I always struggled with losing weight, not only because of my unhealthy lifestyle, but also thanks to my PCOS. My GP in London first mentioned it in 2012, when I had many of the symptoms, but when I had a scan at the hospital later, they couldn’t find any cysts and all my GP could do was to prescribe the contraception pill to try and make the symptoms disappear. Unfortunately, the contraception pill was not right for me. I had mood swings, panic attacks and felt ‘on the edge’ pretty much the entire time. I started the Paleo Diet, which worked wonders for me, but it during my final phase at university I went off it and ever since I failed to get back into it.
Now, nearly two years later – I also have Candida albicans. I must have had it for a while, I noticed patches on my skin a while ago, but of course I completely ignored it. I also ignored all the other symptoms, but I kept having oral thrushes, yeast infections and itchy skin patches, when I finally went to the doctor, they found out.
It’s very important for me to make changes now. I’ll have to completely cut out any forms of sugar from my diet, as well as alcohol, anything made with wheat, rye, oats or barley, any fruit, processed meats, most fish, some nuts, all beans and some other things. I am really not looking forward to this, but it has to be done. I think moving will be the beginning of a new chapter, a healthy one.

I have Ella Woodward’s ‘Deliciously Ella’ book. It’s a great book and very inspiring, but I am not planning on becoming a vegan. Also not all of the recipes are Candida friendly, as Ella loves to use beans and lentils, something I wouldn’t be allowed at first on the Candida diet. I still think it’s a great book and I can’t recommend it enough. You can order it for £9 on Amazon.

As Ella’s book is vegan, I looked at other options too, mainly things that are sugar and dairy free and someone recommend Madeleine Shaw’s book ‘Get the Glow’ to me. Of course I ordered it directly and it should arrive tomorrow. It has a six week programme, that is very strict (so I heard)  and maybe it’s just what I need to get started.

I also need to start working out again. In my new place I will have a gym in the basement with a TV, so I can start the 30 Day Shred and I am also planning on starting with Yoga. I think it’s good for my stiffness and my posture.

While I want to share my progress with others, It won’t be on here. I have started a new blog, where I will write about my healing progress:

How I Heal Myself
