This year’s travels

I really thought that I didn’t travel much this year, but I am going through my iPhone photos and I realise I actually travelled a lot.

1. Istanbul

Just before Christmas 2014 I moved to Istanbul to start a new position. Things did not work out and while I started the year in Istanbul, I fly back to my family in Cologne on the 2nd of January.

2. London

I went to London for the day to meet with recruitment consultants and to have lunch with my old employer. Everything went wrong that day. From having to pay 70€ for not checking in online and wishing I had never booked Ryanair in the first place, I missed my flight thanks to somebody else and had to book a new ticket.

3. Abu Dhabi

At the beginning of February I flew to Abu Dhabi for an interview with the Royal Family. It was a wonderful experience and I won’t forget the lunch I had at the palace. It was a short trip, I only stayed in Abu Dhabi for two days before heading back to Cologne.

4. Doha

I flew to Doha for another interview and I spend a week there, even though I was only meant to fly over for two nights. I had another interview with the Royal Family there and got to ‘live’ with them for a week in their palace.

5. Milan

I came back from Doha, washed my clothes, packed my suitcase and headed to Milano the next day for yet another interview. I did have a lot of interviews at the beginning of the year when I was job hunting and it was quite stressful to travel so much.

Shortly after I came back from Milan, I went to Munich for a temporary job. I was four days in Munich, it was the first time ever and I think Munich is a beautiful city, but the people there seemed very harsh.

7. Salzburg

While I was in Munich, I made a day trip to Salzburg. It was stressful, but Salzburg is such a beautiful city and I wished I could have stayed longer. I definitely have to visit Salzburg again.

8. London

The week after I was in Munich and Salzburg, I went to London for four days. It was less painful than the first time I went to London after I moved and I did a lot of touristy things, so I was distracted and I could actually see the outer beauty of London.

9. London (again)

Shortly after I went to London in March, I went back to London in May to review the Tune Hotel in Liverpool Street. It was a very pleasant stay and I will probably stay there again when I travel to London and need to stay in a hotel.

10. Sylt

Shortly after I went to London, I went to Sylt for a week to visit my aunt. Sylt is like the German Ibiza, a playground for the rich and famous. While I was there the weather was cold and it was raining a lot, so I spent a lot of time inside and it didn’t feel like a holiday at all.

11. Barcelona

I went to Barcelona for the weekend and I had a wonderful time with the guy I was seeing at the time. Just coming back was very unpleasant as the flight was delayed and I got home very late.

For my birthday, I went to Berlin. ‘I’, who I was seeing at the time played tournaments at the World Series of Poker Europe and on my actual birthday, he treated me to  a lovely day at the spa at our hotel.

13. Lugano

My last trip this year was to Lugano, to visit friends and to look at a potential job. I really loved Lugano and decided to move.

Those were my travels in 2015, I am planning my travels for next year soon and we share my travel wishlist with you soon.

Where have you travelled to this year? Where do you want to go to next year?
