At the end of December I blogged about how planned to get back into my old beauty routine and now a month later, I want to share the first update with you.
First of all, I started doing my own Keratin Treatments (aka the Brazilian Blow Dry) in October just before my birthday. In London I had a lovely lady who came to my place and did it for a fraction for the price that I would have to pay in a salon and every time she did the treatment I was very pleased and it would last for around twelve weeks. When I moved to Cologne I could only find two hairdressers who offered the treatment and the prices are horrendously high. Me being desperate I went one time and paid 400€, which is a lot of money and some people have to live on that money for a whole month. I wasn’t particularly happy with the lady doing the treatment, but as I read a lot of good reviews I thought she must know what she is doing. I wasn’t allowed to wash my hair for three days and when I finally washed it, my hair was just like it was before. I have had this treatment many times before, so I know exactly how my hair feels and looks afterwards. I think it was because the straighteners were not hot enough to seal the Keratin. I was very disappointed and thought about regularly flying back to London to have my treatment. I looked for alternatives online and I found a ‘do it yourself’ Keratin Treatment Kit at home and it has changed my life. The first time I did it, I invited my friend round so that she could help me, but in the end it was so easy I could do everything by myself. It just takes a while, especially as I dyed my hair before too. After three days I washed my hair and it was just like I was used to it. Soft, it took only minutes to blow dry it and I didn’t need to use straighteners. Being done with my hair in less than 20 minutes including washing and not having to straighten it, saves me roughly 45 minutes every day and I am happy with the end result. Before, I would spend ages blow drying and straightening it, but nobody would notice my effort after one or two hours. If I don’t have time to blow dry it, I can just air dry my hair and it is just as shiny as when I blow dry it. You can order the Brazilian Keratin Treatment – Home Hair Straightening Kit on Amazon for £29.99. It is recommended that you use salt-free shampoo afterwards. Don’t hesitate to ask me any questions, I am not a professional, but have done the treatment twice myself and had it done many more times by a hairdresser.
As you might know, I moved in the beginning of January and with my trial period of one month, I didn’t take much with me. I took only the make up with me that I use on a daily basis and basic toiletries. Trying to make the most of my luggage allowance, I took mostly clothes with me and planned on buying shampoo and shower gel in Milan. I can’t wait to get all my belongings back next month, I really miss a full wardrobe.
Rekindling my Lush love
In Milan I have a Lush Store just outside my place, I am glad that I only stay a few days a month there at the moment, otherwise I would spend a lot of my salary there. I haven’t been to a Lush store for probably over two years, if not three, but after reading so many reviews by other bloggers I needed to go again. I used to love the Big shampoo, but as I have the Keratin Treatment, I shouldn’t use shampoos with so much salt. Ideally with no salt at all, but I usually use normal shampoo all the time. A lovely member of staff recommended the Fairly Traded Honey Shampoo to me and while it’s called that in the UK, they call it Dolce Meta in Italy. My hair smells so good after washing now. Silly me left in Milan when I went to Lugano and I had to buy another bottle here. With the Keratin Treatment though, I feel my hair needs a proper cleansing shampoo once a week and I like to use a special shampoo that I bought in Germany to have that squeaky clean feeling. I sometimes use Head&Shoulders too, even though I don’t have dandruffs but I like how it cleans my hair.
I always liked Kiko Milano, but now where I am in Milano for a few days every month I am starting to really love the brand. Most of the products I used in January are Kiko Milano. At the beginning of January I needed new foundation and I bought the Liquid Skin Second Skin Foundation. I really like it, it’s very liquid and blends in well. I can’t recommend the Smooth Temptation lipstick enough, I bought it in two shades: 04 English Rose and 05 Peony. Not that I don’t have enough eyeshadows, but hey, it’s a sale, I also bought two new eyeshadows. The Infinity+ Sparke Eyeshadow in 400 Gold and 401 Peach.
However, the biggest changes I have made to my health this month and for me being healthy is part of my beauty routine too. It’s about feeling good about myself and no matter what products you use on the outside, if you don’t feel great from the inside, nothing can ‘make up’ for it. I cut out all rubbish from my diet and I finally ditched the diet soda for good. I am down 10lbs! Cheers to me!
February can come!
